Salmon fishing in Scotland is primarily 'Catch & Release' therefore killing salmon is not permitted unless pre-authorised and in compliance with each individual river’s management regulations & Scottish law. These Scottish 'Catch & Release’ policies are to ensure that good salmon numbers remain in the Scottish rivers which are important for the Scottish economy & good ongoing salmon fishing sport.
